About Us

Shared and core facilities are created and directed by NU faculty and supported by the university to meet the collective needs of our research community.  While each core facility has a faculty advisory committee, there are also committees that serve advisory roles to the Office for Research (click on link to left).

 

Most core facilities are recharge centers that operate as fee-for-service facilities. Please contact the core Director or Manager or visit the core website to determine the availability and fee structure.  Researchers outside of NU are invited to inquire about the availability of instruments and services by visiting the External Customers link above.

 

Please Note: the use of data generated in a core facility in a grant application, progress report or publication contains the implicit understanding that the PI or authors will acknowledge the use of the core facility.  Since many of our facilities are supported by federal agencies, such acknowledgment is mandatory.

 

Authorship: If core personnel provide significant intellectual input to the results submitted for publication, then it is reasonable and appropriate to include them as co-authors.  Since circumstance very widely, each case should be considered individually.
