Call for Equipment Proposals for Fall 2009.

Closed   - deadline was October 15, 2009

Proposals will be evaluated by a Review Panel on Dec. 8, and PIs will be notified of the results shortly thereafter.

New Core Facilities in 2009

The Office for Research is pleased to announce the opening of several new core facilities on the Chicago and Evanston campuses. The list of new core facilities can be viewed here.

Town Hall meetings - topic: NU Imaging

There will be an open forum regarding imaging-related issues in a Town Hall style meeting on both campuses in early December organized by the Office for Research. Chicago - Dec. 3;   Evanston - Dec. 4  Sites to be determined.

Solicitation for Possible New Core Facilites

The Office for Research is accepting proposals from faculty for the creation of possible new core facilities or sub-cores of existing facilites. This solicitation will be closed on December 18, 2009. More information can be found here.

 

Workshops

• The Office for Research sponsors various workshops throughout the year. The purpose of a workshop is to provide an opportunity for discussion between university administrators, directors and managers of core facilities, and PIs of shared instrument proposals. The topics include how to set up a new core facility, how to navigate grant applications that place a limit on the number of submissions from the university, and how to perform a cost study of a core facility.
  
  
• Workshop for Directors and Managers of new Core Facilities took place on Monday, April 27, 2009, in Ward 5-230 on the Chicago campus. Outline of workshop available here.
  
  
• Professional Development Workshop for Managers of Core Facilities took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, in the Searle Seminar Room of the Lurie building on the Chicago campus. It provided the following opportunities related to professional development: (1) discussion of new performance evaluation criteria for core facilities; (2) overview of NU's Performance Excellence Program, and (3) information about NU's Research Administrator Professional (NURAP) organization. Research Facility Fairs

Annual fairs that showcase the equipment and services of NU Shared and Core Facilities are sponsored each year by the Office for Research. In 2009, the fair on the Chicago campus took place in the Method Atrium on January 28, and the fair on the Evanston campus took place in the Pancoe Atrium on March 24. Many research facilities also participated in the Annual Lewis Landsberg Research Day on April 2.

The dates for the 2010 fairs have not been announced yet. Please check back in January.
