Access to CITI Training

CITI Login and Registration Page
To access the CITI training, you must first self register at http://www.citiprogram.org
Once you have selected the option "Register for the Course", you must choose Northwestern University from the dropdown "All Others" menu. The "Submit" button prompts you to the "Select your Username and Password" Screen. Once you determine your password and complete all the required personal Contact information, you can access the program immediately.

Note: At the end of the Contact information page, you will be asked if you already have completed the BASIC CITI course (named CITI-Core Course in the previous version).
If you have not received a Certificate from the Office for the Protection of Research Subjects at Northwestern University, you likely have not completed the Basic training and should answer NO to the question.

The Refresher Course will not be required by Northwestern University at this time. More information will be available at a later date.

Completion of the program - Specific Curriculum
The current CITI program offers two "BASIC" Courses: one for Biomedical Investigators and one for Social/Behavioral Research Investigators.

Therefore, you will be prompted to select one of the following groups:
- Medical School Investigators and research personnel who submit protocols to the medical IRB panels A, B, C, D or Q.
- Social Science and Behavioral Investigators and Research Personnel who submit protocols to the Social/Behavioral IRB panel E.

Each group has been programmed according to Northwestern University requirements. Once you select your group, the system automatically lists the NU required and optional modules in a linear fashion (see below for a list of the required and optional modules for each group).

You must complete the required modules in order and take the quiz at the end of each module. If you are not satisfied with your score, you can retake any quiz to improve. The software will keep track of your progress.

Certificate of Completion After completion of all the modules, if you correctly answered 70 % of the quiz questions for required modules, you will be able to download a Course Completion Report. This "Report" is a transcript and will provide a detailed record of your accomplishments. This report is not a certificate.  NU OPRS will print reports from the CITI website and enter training completions to the NU database on a weekly basis.

***PLEASE NOTE after 01/25/2008, a NU certificate will not be generated - Make sure you print and save a copy of the CITI course completion record
