Human Research Subjects Protection

NU education requirement can be met in the following ways.
Each of these options meets the National Institutes of Health (NIH) education requirements.

The NIH web-based training program does not fulfill NU requirements.

If you conduct research at the Jesse Brown VA medical center, additional training requirements must be met. Check with the R&D office (http://www.research.va.gov/programs/pride/training/default.cfm)

NU-HIPAA & Research

Since April 14, 2003, all Northwestern University staff participating in research must complete the NU-HIPAA Research training.

This training can be completed by reviewing all the HIPAA material (NU-HIPAA policy, forms & guidelines, power point presentation) available here.

Please send an e-mail to IRB@northwestern.edu with the subject: HIPAA training, stating that you reviewed and understood the HIPAA material available on the IRB web-site. This information will be entered on the OPRS database and your name will be added on the HIPAA & Research Trainee IRB web-list.
