The HMM coordinates the hazardous waste disposal and waste minimization programs for the University, provides chemical safety information to the research community, and assists with the coordination of the ORS emergency response team. Consult the HMM when you have questions about the design of experiments involving particularly hazardous materials, or transporting hazardous materials. The HMM provides forms for surplus and chemical waste pickups and containers for collecting chemical waste.

  • Where can I get waste forms to request a pick-up?
  • What kind of containers are suitable for waste collection?
  • What do I do with used pump oil?
  • Where can I get containers for my waste?
  • How can I minimize my hazardous waste?
  • What must I do to close an old laboratory?
  • What should I do with the old chemicals that have been stored in my fume hood for an eternity?
  • What should I do with unstable or highly reactive materials?
  • What safety controls should I have in place when designing a new experiment?
  • What do I do if there is an emergency involving chemicals?
