The Assistant Director - Radiation Safety, in the role of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), is responsible for overseeing the safety and compliance program for all sources of ionizing radiation at the University including sealed and unsealed sources, irradiators and X-ray machines. The RSO writes and maintains the University's broad license and is the liaison with state and federal regulatory agencies. The RSO coordinates the activities of the Radiation Safety Committee and directly supervises radiation safety employees on both campuses. The Assistant Director - Radiation Safety is also the designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO) for the University. The duties of the LSO are similar to those of the RSO and involve oversight of programs related to laser registration, training and safety as well as coordination of the Laser Safety Committee.
