The Chicago campus HWT picks up radioactive waste and delivers radioactive materials to laboratories. Among the supplies maintained by the HWT are the dry- and liquid-waste containers ORS provides on request. The HWT prepares the wastes for storage, shipment or disposal; that may include inspecting the waste and working with laboratory personnel to increase understanding of the important rules governing waste collection.

The HWT can answer questions such as:

  • How do I arrange for waste pickup?
  • I'm opening a new laboratory; what kind of waste containers does ORS provide?
  • What radionuclides are permitted in a single container?
  • What kinds of labels are required on waste containers?
  • Can I dispose of radioactive material down the sink?
