Hazardous-Materials Response

The Office for Research Safety has a staff specially trained to respond to biological, chemical, and radioactive spills and releases. When necessary ORS works closely with University Police, the Office of Risk Management, and local emergency responders such as the Chicago or Evanston fire departments and hazmat teams.

Depending upon the circumstances of the spill or release, cleanup may be done by University employees (under the direction of the supervisor or ORS). ORS can provide cleanup supplies and equipment, personal protective equipment, and cleanup instructions.

An Incident Report Form must be completed for each emergency incident.
