Mercury Thermometer Exchange Form

ORS encourages you to exchange your mercury thermometers for environmentally friendly mercury-free alternatives through the ORS Thermometer Swap Program.

As part of NU's mercury reduction initiative, ORS will provide you with a mercury-free thermometer for every mercury thermometer you are willing to swap. There is no limit to the number of thermometers you can receive and it is all at no cost to you!

ORS has stocked a variety of Enviro-Safe® thermometers made by the H-B Instrument Company. Each thermometer is calibrated to NIST standards and comes with a statement of accuracy. The bright green, non-toxic liquid is easy to read and biodegradable - it's a mixture of hydrocarbons and an anthroquinone dye. For more information about the thermometers, visit the H-B Instrument Web page at http://www.hbinstrument.com/.

We have the following partial immersion thermometers in stock and ready for trading:

Temperature Range
Length (mm)
Immersion (mm)

 A. -10 to 260° C

405 76

 B. -10 to 150° C

200 50

 C. -10 to 110° C

200 50

 D. -20 to 110° C

305 76

Non-mercury precision bottle thermometers, taper joint thermometers, fractional degree, extreme precision, and total immersion can be made available should your needs be different.

To receive your free replacements, answer the questions below and submit the form. An ORS representative will then contact you with information regarding the thermometer exchange. Feel free to contact ORS at 1-5581 to discuss your thermometer needs or for more information regarding mercury-reduction practices for your lab.
