Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)University Principal Investigators or workplace supervisors responsible for lab or nonlab workers using or storing hazardous chemicals must maintain copies of the OSHA-required Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for that chemical. They must also ensure that these copies are readily available to faculty, staff, and students during each work shift when they are in their work areas and to emergency response personnel. The term readily available means quickly and easily accessible at any time for information and emergency use. Alternate means of keeping MSDSs, such as electronic access, microfiche, and CD-ROM, are permitted as long as no barriers to immediate employee access are created by their use. MSDS databases on the Internet are not an acceptable alternative for keeping workplace MSDSs. Please visit the website of the chemical manufacturer to obtain the MSDS for that chemical so that it is readily available in your lab. If a chemical manufacturer from which you purchase chemicals is not listed here, please provide the name to ORS and we will update this site. |
