General Lab Safety Information

The safe operation of laboratories is regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) among other regulations. All laboratory rooms, principal investigators and laboratory workers are registered in the Integrated Safety Information System (ISIS). There are also special registration requirements for lasers. The laboratory compliance guidelines at Northwestern are listed on this and related pages.

Responsibility for maintaining related safety guide lines and coordinating the laboratory safety program is assigned to ORS.
