Laboratory Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training

Description:

This course covers OSHAs Laboratory Standard, general personal protective equipment, and reading Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs). It will provide general laboratory safety information specific to University employees.  Additional worksite-specific information must be provided by the PI or supervisor including the hazards of the chemicals used, the location of MSDSs, signs and symptoms of exposure, safety practices and procedures used in the lab, proper use of equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) training.

OSHAs Occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories – 29 CFR 1910.1450
OSHAs PPE Standards --- 29 CFR 1910. 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 138.

Target:

University employees who work in laboratories which use hazardous chemicals.

Duration:

1.5 hour (classroom) or self-paced (online).

  • Go to the University Blackboard site and login with your netid and password.
  • After completing the test, mail or send your completed and signed Training Record (available online) to:
