Who Does What? A table of whom to contact in various situations.
Shipping Hazardous Materials? DOT regulations require that each person who receives, handles, prepares for shipment, or ships a hazardous material must have general awareness and familiarization, function specific, and transportation security awareness training. The training must include a test to assess understanding and it must be fully documented. For more information about our course for shipping biological materials, please follow this link. If you are sending samples on dry ice, this guideline will teach you how to properly label the package for overnight shipping. Shippers will not accept packages that are not designed for dry ice shipping or are not properly labeled. Chemicals, Radioactive Materials, and Other Hazardous Substances Further training is required before you can legally ship or receive hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials and other substances. Contact ORS for this in-depth training. For further information or to schedule training, e-mail safety-training@northwestern.edu or contact the training manager at 3-8300.
