Research Compliance Risk Assessment

ORI's risk assessment activities help identify gaps in knowledge and understanding related to the responsible conduct of research and appropriate business practices in research administration. We use this information to target our training and educational efforts. ORI works collaboratively with unit administrators to identify and mitigate potential research compliance risks.

Objectives

  • Take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to identifying and managing research compliance risks
  • Self-assessment allows the process owners, those who are responsible for and know their processes better than anyone else, to be involved in identifying risks in their areas and designing controls to manage the risks
  • Detect, classify and quantify high-risk compliance patterns in order to implement policies and procedures which ensure conformance to governmental and University regulations and policies
  • Minimize liability and risk to the University from non-compliance and adverse events
  • Utilize the completed risk assessments to better identify and aim the most necessary and effective training and education
