Science in Society (SiS), a Northwestern University office dedicated to science outreach and public engagement, was formed in 2008 to promote public dialogue and understanding of scientific issues through programming, special events, and media. We work with University researchers, community partners, and members of the public, both adult and youth, to facilitate existing projects, develop new initiatives, and provide training for researchers in communication and engagement.

Scientific Images Contest - 2012 Winners and Honorable Mentions
Science in Society is proud to present the winners of the 2012 Scientific Images Contest. Each piece, judged by a panel of local artists, scientists and community leaders, is representative of real Northwestern research. Submitted by University faculty, students and staff, the images cover a wide range of disciplines including medicine, chemistry, engineering, nanotechnology and Earth science. Visit the gallery.

Get Connected to the Community!
Science in Society is assembling a list of active science, technology, engineering, & math outreach programs designed for non-expert audiences on campus. We plan to use this inventory to efficiently match community requests with existing initiatives, help new program leaders get a sense of which disciplines and communities are already being served, and as a resource for potential volunteers.
